If you're gonna have a photo finish pic get the pic right.

I love some of the comments on that tweet you posted:

If the next frame puts the winner past the line, you go to the frame immediately prior.
There isnt a placing judge in America that wouldn't have Cyberknife winning that photo, even if his nose is 'officially' a 1/16 of an inch from the wire.
It's certainly not a dead heat.

He obviously doesn't understand how the photo finish system works.
There is no next frame or prior frame. What you see IS THE FINISH.
THE PHOTO IS THE FINISH
The line is absolutely IMMATERIAL and is only a TOOL to help determine who the winner is. It's nothing more than a RULER for all intents and purposes.
You would THINK people who have been into this game more than 5 minutes would know all this already.
But SO MANY PEOPLE are CLUELESS.
Twitter was built precisely for such people.

Then they shouldn't put it up. Just tell us.
This is the kind of thing just like the antiquated tote system and just like the Breeders Cup debacle at Del Mar that people see and lose confidence. And California is the worst but NY is gaining.

What are you talking about?
You don't need a line to see who the clear winner of that race was.
You guys don't realize that line is actually MOVABLE on the screen, do you? The placing judge could put the line over the jock's backs if he wanted to, as I posted before.
Why are so many people still clueless after 20+ years of me and others posting about it on here?

OK. Whoever posted the photo screwed up and should have moved the line a tad more to the left.
What does that change?

I'm sure they probably got the actual result right but every other professional sport doesn't have these kinds of problems. Same with timing

The photo finish system is designed in such a way that the "photo" (it's all digital now) that is delivered is nothing but the actual finish. Thus there is 100% certainty they got the actual results right, because nothing else is delivered by the system.
That's how it's designed.

How could you ever bet another race if this is how you truly feel?
Track and field, speed skating, short track racing all have photo finish cameras now.

This is what Grand River uses + dozens of other tracks here
Now being a Photo Finish operator this thread for that Churchill Downs photo like what CJ and PA said it would not have mattered if they put the line on the horse but just so I wouldn't get in trouble for each photo that I do I would put the line a bit closer

I'm not sure what you mean. All I said is that they should get it right.

You said they probably got it right, which leads me to believe you doubt the system.
I apologize if I have it wrong.
What is the "right" way?

When they investigated out here a few years ago the Plusmic timing company came to a CHRB meeting to give a presentation cuz of the controversy. It turns out that the Plusmic system was fine but they were using outdated computers with shitty video cards and NON HD monitors to judge the photo's. On top that sometimes they were printing the picture out on a shitty printer to view the photo.

That has nothing to do with the actual finish system, which ALWAYS delivers nothing but the actual finish.
People replying to the tweet you posted are obviously unaware of this.
Tons of ignorance out there, and you're just fanning the flames with nonsense about "a few years ago" and non-HD monitors...
