i am starting to have a different opinion on these markets. i am thinking that there is going to be one final tank to wash out as many people as possible and rinse them out before the S+P explodes to 5000.

under 3000 now makes a lot of sense and does some nice damage. the fed will then empty out their artilary.

The economy will crap out and the fed will stop raising or even reduce rates. This will send Bond prices from their current depressed level to the moon.

I've been saying it for months and I'll keep saying it, Bonds are the place to be right now, yields for the long term are stupid good and the potential for 30-40% appreciation is there too.

I think 3,000 as a bottom for the S&P seems reasonable, I don't know if it will happen this year or next year. Things seem otpimistic the last few days, I'm not sure why. Housing has only begun to feel some pain and the jobs market cannot sustain it's current levels.

Drinking the EV kool aid apparently.

When the economic hits actually start rolling do we really think the auto industry is going to be booming? This of course is only if we are willing to look past the fact that most auto companies suck at making money, in good times and in bad.

A long way of saying it's "pass" for me.

are we having fun yet?

VIX still below 30...lol

Oh, and not sure anyone noticed, but the VIX moved up yesterday while the market as a whole was relatively flat...perhaps a tip-off of what would be happening this morning and now?

The fact that there has been no real end of quarter rally leaves me really thinking July will get off to a rough start.

If the market cannot rally with all the quarter end rebalancing going on then what's it going todo to start a new quarter?

Still plowing into bond funds with every dollar the ATM machine will give me.

Oh, is that what is fueling this "rally" the past few hours.

Futures looked deader then a doornail from the moment it opened yesterday evening...up until around 30 minutes before Europe closed @ around 11:30am today

Recession/Depression

I'm not seeing some of the crucial signs of a recession or worse, a depression. That sign is unemployment. Everywhere we go, in our town(city) I'm seeing signs practically begging people to work for them. When did you ever hear of companies paying bonuses, just to come to work for them in entry-level jobs? After 10+ years of a bull market, tracking sideways for a year or three will feel like a recession.
Remember, the UE rate during the depression reached 25% of the workforce. I don't know how much the govt monkeyed with the actual rate back then. We supposedly hit 13% UE at the peak of the pandemic, but govt handouts didn't help that number.

The housing market is up, and the home builders are still bullish. Gold and silver are stuck in a trough, and those two things make no sense (to me) that we're in a recession, or going into one.

I said a couple of years back that the stock market is a leading indicator of the economy, and that doesn't look too healthy at the moment. But we really needed it to reset to more realistic expectations on earnings. Or maybe I'm just too optimistic in my outlook.
