This thing might make the perfect media streamer?

Especially if you like to run KODI

This an older model...I wonder if they made any improvement to the power supply...

Plus I'm sure there are better devices like this out on the market...if I'm ever in the market for another media streamer, I might give one of these serious consideration

Can you explain a bit? I always hear about Plex but never took the time to find what the buzz was about.

What makes it great? I'm not into storing movies or shows...just streaming them...

BTW, I picked up this thing out of sheer impulse and a desire to fool around with it...

Plex and Kodi are pretty much the same thing.

Plex is much more polished and easier to set up and use. They have a subscription model for more features.

Kodi is completely free and open source, there are various extensions that can access various libraries. It's a little harder to customize.

I'm embarrassed to say when I put it in my cart, it still had the $60 Prime Day discount (and a note about only "14 minutes remaining").

Then I got distracted, hurried back, added two more items I needed for this thing (a keyboard and an HDMI female to male cable, which I later realized was already included, but I wanted a higher quality one anyway), completed the purchase, then wondered why I am paying full price...

Luckily, I went on about an hour later, saw it was ON SALE AGAIN for prime day, was able to cancel the original order and got my $60 in the end...

I've used Kodi off and on for years on various devices...open source has its advantages...

Plex early on became very popular because it played more differing formats than others. I haven’t used it for a few years but had it on my older machine for just that reason. It would convert on the fly too, if you had the processing power.

It was always one step ahead……doing something nobody else could do. I’m sure it’s still the same……which makes this device very intriguing …….

I barely did much research on these things before buying this on impulse...always a dangerous thing...there are probably more powerful devices out there at perhaps even a cheaper price...

But like I said..impulse buy...

I can always return it if it turns out to be utter shite.

welp, I already know I'm returning this (and I haven't even gotten it yet).

It does 4k, but can't handle HDR.

So, I ordered this one instead for $30 more:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$230 with the coupon...this one does HDR

PS. I've had an Nvidia Shield for years now...I just want to attempt the same thing using Windows...because I'm a masochist...lol

"Shield" is a strange name for a streaming device, now that I think about it...lol
