Jockey Ruben Fuentes

We had the opportunity to chat with jockey, Ruben Fuentes, who is taking the Southern California circuit by storm. Ruben grew up in a jockey family, and left the circuit his family was running in to aim for the big tracks. Check out our latest episode to learn more about this up and coming jockey.

That gate to wire win! Yes! He explained to us how he is with the horse when they enter the gate, and how he likes to relax the horse just enough before the gates open. You could tell when the gate open that horse was ready to go and Ruben handled him great. I think he is a jockey to keep an eye out for.

He almost got taken down for that ride in the 9th. Drifted way out. Even Larry Collmus noticed.

The was really tired and was never going to pass ,Rispoli knew it and tried the old Pat V. acting job(it was the right move, sometimes it works)...... but the stewards weren't buying it.
The no change ruling was correct.

Did you see the head on? Fuentes deliberately moved from the 1 path to the 5 path.

I watched the Head-on and the backdoor.
Those angles didn't come into play in the stewards minds because the was not going to pass the.
And.....Fuentes filly was well clear of Rispoli's runner to boot.
Any horse playing regular could watch the full view of the race and see that Fuentes horse was well clear of the Rispoli runner.......the Fuentes horse never touched the Rispoli filly(or even got close to touching her) and when the drifted out the was not impeded.
Plus.....Rispoli's filly had started drifting in herself because she was tiring.
Like I said,Rispoli was acting.....and the regular angle showed it clearly.......that's what the stewards based their call on.

what would 'intent' have to do with DQing a horse?

Looked like a relatively complex decision. The wouldn't have gotten him, but it would have been somewhat close (neck?).

The extra stuff comes from the being on the wrong lead and the rider trying to both change leads and come to the rival, and the leader Fuentes trying to both stay clear of the 'chute' opening in the rail and herd the .

My judgement isn't perfect. So I could be wrong, but on a straight path, free of obstacles, I think that the was beginning to hang, and that his footwork was one of the limiting factors.

That one was deserved,he's probably going to get 10 days min for that move.
Kind of painful,I played his runner in that one.
The horse was live, took a big hit when they were in the gate..... went from 17-1 to 11-1 in one pop.

Clear DQ. 8/29 r5

He also may have had a 'window' to get out behind the .

Some debate over a rider 'with horse' should be able to force his way out (although it has to be a lot smoother than that), and you see big name jocks on favorites get a pass to do a more subtle version... Some also say: "it's part of race-riding", that if you're boxed in and have run, too bad, - you have to be patient or take the loss.
