Maxfield fires 6f bullet/slated for Matt Winn next

The son of Street Sense appears to be doin' well after the surgery to remove a bone chip from his right front. He is flying under the radar . . . worked a 6f bullet on Derby day. Caught the luckiest break w/the 5 September Derby and his connections gotta' be feelin' pretty good right now to be bringin' in a fresh three-year-old - he's gotta be raring to go. Gonna be keepin' a keen eye on this one.

Anxious to see this one race. He looked like a world beater against the immature two year olds. Hope he moves forward so we can add another top player to the mix.

Nice. I was high on this horse last year. He checks a lot of the Derby breeding angles I look at. Raise A Native top line and tail female family 1-x, both of which have big impact value. Hopefully he can flash that late turn of foot on display in the Breeders' Futurity. Depressingly few late runners this year.

I agree, good to see him back in the mix. I tried to find the video of his workout, but I didn't have any luck.

The best thing that has happened to many a successful horse is to have failed while heavily bet on as a two-year-old in its first or second attempt to break its maiden. The trainer doesn’t like what he sees, or a minor injury is discovered, but the result is the same: the horse is laid off, allowed to grow and mature, and comes back as a three-year-old, often winning first time back. The return to the races of this type of three-year-old often heralds the beginning of a brilliant career that would have been aborted had the horse performed well initially as a two-year-old. Mark Cramer, 2015

Maybe Maxfield will be that kind, but there is always the chance he'll get swallowed up by the pace pressure like Dennis' Moment or Coliseum . . . never to be heard from again. Cautiously optimistic and lookin' forward to seein' what he has for em'.

Pneumatic and Mystic Guide also among the over 30 nominees for the Matt Winn, along with Major Fed, Finnick the Fierce and a number of others. It will be interesting to see who ends up running.

Thanks for the joy . . . again.

Tough game.

I liked everything about this colt and was looking forward to watching him run in the Blue Grass Stakes. I jumped out of my seat when Ortiz popped the whip on him and he came chargin' down the stretch in the Matt Winn Stakes . . . I can still see that move in my mind and him crossing the finish line first, twas pure joy.

It was an absolute pleasure watching him run and a deep heartfelt thanks to trainer Brendan Walsh for that fine piece of horsemanship bringing him back after that surgery to win at first asking. The life and times of these speedy swiftys is short and brilliant, this one here, tough to see him go after all he and his connections have been through.

Nice he didn't lose his life entertaining horse racing fans.

Now he can go back to being a horse.

I wish him well.

He definitely had potential. Looked as good as any of them. But these horses mimic the sports world in the present day. They are big and fast but once the wheels fall off they are in big trouble. Brilliant like a shooting star and they fade just as fast. My first thought when the Derby was delayed . Let’s see how many make it to September.

I don’t dig into these horses like I used to, but doesnt this injury usually put an end to them racing? I get it’s non displaced etc
But is there some new treatment for this injury?

I’m suspicious

Disagree, there will be 20, count on it. Even if it means 10 maidens.
