Any insight on how NYRA handled the adjustments to the timings for the three Cigar Mile day races?

The problem, as they explained it, was that something was blocking the start beam at the runup distance, so that the race timing started when the gate opened.

So you'd think that they would use either Trakus or video to best estimate when the first horse passed the start beam and then deduct that time from each of the points of call. But that's not what they did. The adjustments were different for each point of call, resulting in changes in the quarter splits.

It looks like they tossed out the accurate beam timings at the points of call and redid the whole race by either Trakus or video.

Whatever they did it wasn't done well. It was part of the impetus for writing this piece. Horseplayers deserve better.

When the "best" circuit does it slather-assed, what does it say about the entire miserable joke of an industry?

No excuse for this incompetence.
