RIP J.J. Sunseri
It was reported today (1-02) that veteran midwest jockey J.J. Sunseri had succumbed from injuries sustained in a December 13th automobile accident.
Sunseri rode and exercised on the River Downs, Beulah Park, Turfway Park circuit for well over thirty years. Primarily known as a "house jockey" who would ride mounts on short notice. He was fearless and would ride any steed, regardless how rank, under any conditions.
He was born in Italy, and still sported an authentic Italian flair in his speech. He was raised in Erie, Pa., and gravitated to the Cincinnati area in the 70s. In his later years J.J. could be found frequenting the River Downs Race Book at Belterra Park during the summer. He was always active in donating memorabilia, and obtaining donations for the Disabled Jockey Fund fund-raisers.
An all around good guy, he will be missed.
