Quick google search is Iran was spending about $3 Billion on arms sales annually with the US.

They were buying high price items, planes mostly, my guess is Boeing, Grumman, and Northrop weren't taking promissory notes on those kind of items. They would require some sort of initial capital investment.

I'm sure a deeper search would answer the question but that answer makes sense.

Plus I think most registered Arms Sales have to run through the State Dept. first. I'm not really sure what the quid pro quo is... interesting question.

Quote from AP Archive
"30 Jun 2016) Weak leadership, poor judgment, a lack of "warfighting toughness" and a litany of errors led to the embarrassing capture and detention by Iran of 10 US sailors in the Persian Gulf in January, according to a Navy investigation released on Thursday. Six officers and three enlisted sailors have been disciplined or face disciplinary action. The trouble began even before the sailors left port in Kuwait aboard two 50-foot boats on a short-notice, 300-mile journey to Bahrain. They were delayed, unprepared, poorly supervised and ill-suited for the mission, the report said. At least one sailor had been up all night with boat repairs. Their higher headquarters failed to arrange air or surface monitoring of the boats' transit. Such monitoring "would likely have prevented" the sailors' capture by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, according to the report. The Navy's top operations officer, Adm. John Richardson, was presenting the investigation's results at a Pentagon news conference. The lengthy investigation concluded that while the boat crews erred in entering Iranian waters, the Iranians violated international law by impeding the boats' "innocent passage," and violated US sovereign immunity by boarding and seizing the boats. In addition to the range of problems that plagued the crew and the sailors' chain of command, the incident has raised questions about the Navy's preparedness in a waterway known to pose risks amid tensions between the US and Iran. The boat crews had planned their route but made an unauthorised deviation that took them into Saudi and Iranian territorial waters. More mistakes followed as both boats stopped inside Iranian waters while one crew was attending to an engine failure. They could see Iran's Farsi Island in the distance but thought it was Saudi territory"

Why do you hate America? Why don't you move to Europe if you are so anti-Washington DC? LOL

Says the crowd full of people claiming to be on the road to overthrow of the congressional establishment with a sidebar of second amendment-civil war refrain.

Letters of Credit are as good as cash.

So...the Obama Admin. was selling arms to a known terrorists-supporting state? Would that not make Obama an accessory before the fact?

It has been said that the Obama Admin. has brokered more arms sales than any other administration since WW II, but did they actually sell arms to Iran?

The arm sales date back to the 70s and the Shah.

I don't think we've sold Iran anything in 35+ years.

Yup.

The ultra liberal think tank Brookings Institute explains

That link also addressed your other question.

Collusion to give aid and comfort to the enemy.
Kerry needs to be tried for treason.
With others.

A common belief in the Beltway is that you do not prosecute the top of a previous administration for fear we will appear to be a vindictive banana republic. Just the opposite - it PROVES we are one.
