Horse of the Year?
It's not going to be Game On Dude, I don't think. It seems beyond debate now that he's a horse who puts up impressive figures against the second-raters but can't do it against the real competition.
Probably Wise Dan repeats. I think Beholder merits some consideration but given that there are still a lot of people who would choose Princess Of Sylmar as 3YO filly champ I don't see Beholder getting the votes.

I'd love to see someone make a case for a horse other then Wise Dan.

I agree
Not even sure who gets second place.
How about 3YO male, Will Take Charge?

Three horses went into the water, one horse came out of the water.

He didn't win enough. Still has to be Game On Dude, maybe Beholder will be the other nominee. Surely she rates ahead of Will Take Charge.

Wise Dan for me!
In a very mixed up year the only consistent horse was Wise Dan, that hiccup at Keeneland was not his forte.

Yes, Beholder rates ahead of WTC overall, was
curious who people would vote for in the male 3 year old category.
I could not vote for Game on Dud after that effort on his home track.

Beholder has just as many G1 wins this year as Wise Dan and IMHO ran the more impressive race in the Breeders Cup. And the 3YO fillies were definitely stronger in a relative sense than the male grass milers this year.
Like I said in my first post, Wise Dan will probably repeat and I would give him my vote if I had one, but there is going to be discussion.

Wise Dan... hands down. If Game on Dude had won the classic there would of been much debate. But his chance faded in the stretch.

Will take charge might not have won enough, but I think he is inches from being on the ballot. I think Lukas should be comeback player of the year.........and Will take Charge should get the 6th man award

What a story and what a great year for him. Preakness and Travers with two different horse. Plus he wins the Hopeful and *might* have a solid player in Strong Mandate.
You can't win Trainer of the Year with a 9% win percentage ... but it sure would be interesting to see what he could do with the stock of some of the other big guys, even at 78 years old.

Wise Dan is going to win it, and he is really good, but this year was win by default, those firecracker and 4stardave wins sure dont scream horse of the year to me.
Maybe next we will see a dominant sprinter win horse of the year.
