Few early in the meet observations-
1) Joel Rosario seems determined to shake the impression some had that he is a passive rider, because he has been very aggressive (a good thing) the first few days. He's been getting his mounts out in good order and establishing good position. He's been getting on live mounts and looks like he is going to have a strong meet.
2) Jose Lezcano has been riding well and has also done a good job of getting his mounts in good position which is important on both the grass and dirt here.
3) With the exception of the freaky Kauai Katie, it's been a very uncharacteristically slow start to the meet for Todd Pletcher. He is usually very strong out of the gate to start the meet. Eventually he's going to get going and if I had to guess it's going to be sooner than later, so take advantage while you can.
4) You really can't say enough about Ramon Dominguez. He rides everything well and has been terrific so far.
5) On the flip side, Javier Castellano has been slow to get going. He rides for too many live barns to not get going soon, but he doesn't seem to be riding with the same confidence he was last summer.
6) Wesley Ward will win the 2 year old filly turf stake, the PG Johnson, later in the meet with one of the fillies he ran in the 5th today.
