I'm going to repeat myself.
I don't think it's so unusual for a 6 year old with 21 starts to start declining from her peak. In fact, I'd think it's more likely than not. If that's the case, then I doubt we saw peak Black Caviar. That makes it a shame because some people are going to be tempted (understandably) to evaluate her career off this one race because her Aussie form and competition is somewhat mysterious to most of us.
It's hard to evaluate cross border form, but I thought one interesting point made above was that other Aussie sprinters have done well at Ascot historically, but in his opinion none of them was even close to Black Caviar while racing in Australia.
I have more faith that someone familiar with Australian racing can evaluate her relative to other Aussie sprinters, look at how they did at Ascot, and conclude yesterday wasn't her best than just looking at the result.
