iPad malfunctioning

I have an iPad...barely used.
Last night it froze up..an would slide off...little gear just turns around in middle.
Took it to a Verizon Store...they said it was malfunctioning. ...and I need to take it to an Apple store.
It's pretty new but I didn't get insurance because I never take it out of my house.
I don't like it, but can't even give it away if it's broken.
Any suggestions...I'll take it to Apple Store Monday but it's like going to hell. If you look at reviews of Pasadena Cal. Apple store...they are horrific.

Hold down on button on top and round button at bottom till it turns off. Then do the same till it turns on.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, iPads do lock up like that. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, that is the fix. My dad had one that never did recover and he had to send it back to Apple.

Here's a tip:

I wanted to buy an iPad. A computer programmer friend of mine in Silicon Valley told me to go to Apple's website and buy a refurbished one.

It was half the cost of a new one and it still works fine. That was 5 years ago!

I have bought refurbished Apple phones, too. They're still working.
