20-cents Pick 5
Race One:
First, I would say that if you’re playing the 20-cents Pick-5, I would counsel “buying insurance.” Five-deep, six-deep…” It’s your call, and your bankroll. As Cole Porter once penned, I believe in this “Big M” opener: “Anything Goes.” That sometimes can work to a bettor’s advantage, especially if a long-shot pops. The horse I like this evening “broke” in his last at 7-to-5. Ouch! I’m talkin’ ‘bout the 3 All American N. This New Zealand-bred holds a class-edge over most of these; yet I’ll hold my breath throughout the race that he doesn’t suddenly “dance.” If I knew he were going to “stay flat”… Todd McCarthy is in the seat for trainer Williams Hernandez. Others: 8, 1, 7
Race Two:
6 OurLittleMiracle turned in a solid, recent “qualie.” In that one, this 3-year-old Bettor’s Delight-bred bay filly zoomed home in a blistering :25.4 (that’s not far removed from thoroughbred closing times). If that qualifying “performance” is any indication of her readiness, then it may just be “Katy-Bar-The-Door” for the rest of this evening’s field. It’s “The Aussie Connection,” driver Andrew McCarthy, and trainer Darran Cassar. Frankly, if I knew that this Mach Three-bred were heading out for the lead as she did up in Canada at Woodbine last September, I’d feel that much more reassured. In fact, I’d be salivating like a Pavlovian dog, or in horse-racing parlance, “chomping at the bit.” This Ontario-bred is capable of making every pole a winning one. Others: 3, 5, 2
Race Three:
5 Force N Fury gets my nod as we start off “the Survivor Pick-7.” This Captain Treacherous-bred will need “the trip.” But, if he gets it, this 4 YO could leave this field in his wake. The Ontario native, Scott Zeron, has to time this Dragon Again’s moves just right. Mike Eaton trains and part-owns (I remember Mike when he was a young driver at Foxboro Raceway). I believe that it all boils down to: “If he gets the tow; he can get the dough.” Others: 3, 8, 4
Race Four:
I’ve opted for a medium long-shot, 4 Torn To Pieces As. It’s just that “The Orange Crush,” Andy Miller, has a way with trotters. I also like this 3-year-old’s first pari-mutuel start. This Explosive Matter-bred stayed flat and closed willingly in the stretch. In all candor, I’m always looking for value, or what I perceive to be “value.” I see it here. Yes, I will “buy insurance”; however, I believe this Anette Lorentzon-trainee is capable of getting his picture taken. Others: 1, 3, 6.
Race Five:
It’s the GSY amateur series. I’ve landed on 4 Cashncam. Driver James Foley is a solid reinsman. Foley may well take this Williams Hernandez-trainee right to the top. In his last, this Millionaire Cam-bred was 2nd-a neck. This Four Starzzz Shark-bred should be right there at the wire. Others: 6 RockinWithTheBest; 3 May I Cruise West; 8 WatchMeNeighNeigh
