Mubtaahij, the runaway winner of the UAE Derby. Moves on to Louisville as a real contender. What a turn of foot! Has the pedigree to win the Derby and should sit a great trip.

It was almost Arazi/Secretariat like. Not sure what he beat and that ship out has historically been tough but I think we will hear from the horse somewhere down the line if not in Louisville.

Definitely in Louisville. This horse has a lot of attributes you'll find in a Derby winner. Very excited. Here is a video of his UAE Derby yesterday:

Yes. Lets mark them down:
  • Has never ran a 2 turn race
  • Has never ran in the States
  • Breeding has never won a Triple Crown race
  • Owners/Trainer have never won a Triple Crown race
  • Has never ran on real dirt
Other than that, the horse is perfectly ready for a Run for the Roses.

I also was very impressed with the horse Saturday. I doubt the trainer would bring this horse to Louisville unless he thought he had a real shot. He has passed on many US races in the past.
I rarely look at breeding when I handicap so I can't comment on the adequacy of his breeding.
He ran on a surface that appeared to be tiring and has won at a distance farther than any other Derby competitor has run at this year.
He has over a month to get accustomed to the Churchill Downs dirt if this is really a concern of the connections.

This Mubtaahij horse is making my head spin cause I don't know what to expect from a UAE derby horse ever. I scratch all foreign horses out every year, gonna be interesting because this horse basically has everything you look for in a derby horse.
