California horses in the Derby

1. Dortmund
2. American Pharoah
3. Bolo
4. Prospect Park
5. Firing Line

Anybody remember another year where the West Coast was this stacked going into the Derby? I still have reservations about AP, FL and Dortmund, I like Bolo and PP more, but I cannot remember a year where there was a strong contingent from out west.

2012 California horses finished 1-2 and took 4 of the top 6 in the finishing order.

That seems pretty good to me.

The West Coast has emerged as the best crop the last few years. With the exception of Orb who campaigned in Florida its not been close who has the best crop of 3 YOs.

I hope these horses fulfill their promise - a successful CA racing scene can only be good for American racing as a whole.
