Consortium
Was anyone else impressed by Consortium's first out maiden effort at Aqueduct? He ran an 8 Rag that day and it was visually impressive to me. In today at Gulfstream 3rd race and has posted a bullet work at Palm meadows. McLaughlin trains, Darley is owner/breeder. Pletcher's got one in there too but this Consortium stood out more. 2-1 ML.

I know I love the 1 and 2 because they have 19 starts between them as 2 year olds!
It is tough to go against Pletcher at GP. His horses seem to draw off there and win even when they run sideways like the filly yesterday.

Pletcher horse wins by a length. Maybe he's not anything...

115.51, nice final time unless the track is playing fast. Consortium pressed through fast fractions and held on fairly well. Lot's of upside for both, possible rematch in the Holy Bull Stakes late in January

The best thing is after Gulfstream you can pretty much throw out the Pletcher winners when they show up later at other tracks.

I'm going to guess he hasn't bled.

McLaughlin has been racing most all of his 2yos without Lasix initially due to the possible ban. He has stated publicly that he is experimenting on his own by not using the medication until a horse demonstrates that it must have it.

I think it is pretty clear Lasix gives horses an edge for whatever reason, otherwise everybody and his brother wouldn't give it to every horse for pretty much no reason. The horse most likely would have won with Lasix. Anyone that doesn't think so is probably kidding themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he is doing this, but it will be tough when everyone other horse still has an L in the program.

Good for him.
I would like to think other trainers would follow suit.
Lasix should be saved for those horses that bleed, not used on every horse, "just because they are running."

I thought he would probably have won with it also, that's why I asked.

no question that the lasix would have made the difference, but that horse will be sitting on a big race his next out. that horse has bigtime ability and not using the lasix will only help his longevity in his racing career.

That really is a tough one, because I do think it is clear horses running on Lasix have a competitive advantage.

I'm not going to argue that at all. There was a time at most tracks, though, where horses had to be proven bleeders prior to going on Lasix. That, of course, doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
