She was able to mention the entire field more than once. Few pauses. Gets a solid B grade.

I would suggest keeping catch phrases to a minimum, keep it simple. I do hear improvement though.

We could be talking about you but that would be boring.

I take your point, but it seems many (most?) have a trademark phrase.

"Down the stretch they come!"
"Three of them across the track."
(Even when there's a horse on a 3-length lead.)

"Spinning out of the turn."
(Nothing informational there.)

My all-time favorite:
"If you put your money on number 9, take your ticket and stand on line."
(Trevor had so many.)

"Can see them all" tells a story of how compact the field is. I like it.

But I come back to, "It's a difficult job."

"They'd have to sprout wings!"
"They're head and head, nose and nose"
"They come down to the line of finish"
"Moving like a winner"
"Poised for the stretch drive"
"is asked for run and he's responding!"
"Hello!"
"they advance into the upper turn" (that's an obscure one... wonder if anyone knows it)
"you better take a look at"
"scraping paint"
"and they're into the stretch!"
"and they zipped the opening quarter"
"is gaining ground!"
"and the last horse away"
"leads to the wire"

They say it one time during the race not TWICE

On Youtube, I've watched countless old races with the GOAT Durkin on the call. I probably know some of them by heart. I can tell you he repeated a line twice within a race many times.

Calling the action properly is like 90% of the job. If she's getting nitpicked over catch phrases now, then I will assume that she is now doing fine calling the race

"Drive on boys" that was one of my favorites and I only heard it once. I don't think it was Joe Alto but it was around the time he was calling harness at Los Alamitos. He was mocking a group of drivers hell bent for the lead that made the half in :58 2/5 with pacers that never got a whiff of a two minute mile. The hole front half of the field skidded to a halt entering the far turn for the last time.

Well, if nothing else then, this thread has established that Durkin, too, sucks.

I know I will sleep well tonight.
