What does Big Ben have to do to become "elite?"

Arguably he's already there. I think with no Peyton, and the regression of a number of QBs, he's right there. No, not at the level of Rodgers, Brady or Brees but as good as anyone else.

Big Ben is not an elite QB...he's an elite FOOTBALL PLAYER.

Manning and Brees are QB's

I think that last touchdown against Balt. The other night was thrown by a pretty damn good 'quarterback'. Rolling right, being pursued......gets off a pretty good pass with plenty enough zip on it.......that was a pretty good quarterback.

That is a good question. Not very many people put him in the league with Payton and Brady. He is though of as good but not great QB on a very good team. He does not give the appearance of running the show like they do when you watch him. I think that is difference. He is sort of the modern day Bart Starr.

"Elite" is only an opinion anyway. Maybe because he's unconventional he gets demerits I just don't put him in the same class as Brady, Brees, and Rodgers. Performing well in only one Super Bowl has something to do with it also. I would say top tier is appropriate along with Eli the rest would be subjective. Notice all five have one thing in common an item called a "ring".

This will make you happy though he's a 'winner" and I rather have that title than "elite" any day of the week. I always argued this with my friend till Manning won a Super Bowl and it drove him nuts. I stated in a big game give me Jim Plunkett over Dan Marino, Manning, or Fouts anytime he has two rings. Only a moron would say "over a career" but when it was time to appear on the big stage Plunkett never blinked. I don't even consider him a top tier quarterback either.

I know the "porous" defense argument is coming I don't buy it. The Packers won 45-58 last game Rodgers found a way to win even though its a regular season game.

I can buy the "elite" player but you make a valid point also. His strength is throwing the ball rolling out nobody does it better in the game. Because it is so "unconventional" it probably hurts his evaluation because he's also "susceptible" to throwing picks also in that motion.

I would want him on my team if I didn't have Brees. The guy gets the crap beat out of him and comes back battered and then plays like a warrior.

I seen him off target alot in that game monday night. He was good when he needed to be though. He has a lot of odd targets around him who play when they feel like it. I dont like how he shotputs the ball at all though.

I could buy into that, and also Canarsie's use of the term "winner."

I would say he is an elite QB. Football player? What other position could he play? Tight end?

Sorry but that statement is so 2005. Yes, back then it was true. Offensively, who are the greats he's worked with? A 35 year old Jerome Bettis? A 37 year old Hines Ward? Mendenhall is ok and Wallace looks like a fine player but in the Super Bowl against Arizona it WAS Ben's team. That offensive line does him no favors as well. And while they have talented players on D, they've forced something like 4 turnovers all season.

I am not a Steeler fan so I have no dog in the fight, but he is a top 5 QB.

Ben,imo is alot like Elway.Ben will be better QB as he gets older .Statistically Elway wasnt a great Qb (longetivity had more to do with his stats)>Ben could make any throw, like elway, comebacks we seen both of them make great comebacks, medicore receivers thru out there careers,Ben does have ward ,Elway had Sharpe.Ben like Elway held on to the ball too long, but as Elway got older Shannan,T.Davis,Sharpe and having the best O line in football(gibb o line coach)made Elway even better. And as you can see Ben has been throwing the ball more now then ever because of the NFL becoming a passing league and he has made the adjustment,Ben a first ballot HOFamer imo he will at least get 2 more shots to tie Bradshaw.

Talking

not sure it's fair to compare Big Ben who has the support of the Steeler faithful...

when Flacco only has the Ravens fans backing him...
