Larry Collmus Race Call

The stretch call was fantastic....

"American Pharoah makes his run for glory...."

was a little concerned when Durkin retired since he was great but Collmus really did a hell of a job...

I've been generally critical of his big race calls, the screaming was too much.
However have to give credit where its due, his Belmont call was very good. Hit just about all the right notes for the event.

Me too but I agree.

However, I can't help but feel bad for Tom Durkin. I also wonder how much better the call would've been if Tom Durkin was calling.

I can't stop thinking how Durkin would've called it.

His call of Smarty Jones and Real Quiet IMO far eclipses Collmus call. And those horses lost.

LARRY VS TOM

NO CONTEST, THE CLASS ACT WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ALLOW
TOM TO DO THE RACE CALL, OR AT ALLOW BOTH GUYS
TO SPLIT THE CALL, WITH TOM DOING THE STRETCH CALL

Too bad TD couldn't have been in the booth and have been handed the mic by Lawrence the classy when it was obvious the triple crown was a reality.

The incomparable .....

Pretty risky. It could have gone:

"And American Pharoah is shortening stride! The lead is shrinking! Frosted catches him with a sixteenth to go! And yet again, there will be no Triple Crown winner this year...

I don't think ol' Tom would want or need that.

Collmus has had some good ones the 2008 Haskell call with Big Brown is really good too, one of my favorite Durkin calls is the 2007 Preakness. Thats an all time classic

I think this call back in Aug. of 2010 really gave Collmus huge national exposure and a much needed publicity push:
