I drive by a Chipotle every day but have never set foot inside. Too many good independent Mexican Restaurants in the DFW area to try a chain restaurant. Could be I am missing something. Who knows?

I hadn't eaten at a Chipotle in about a year and a half. Put them on the pay no mind list. Gave them another chance today.....it was better than I remembered in the past. Worth the second chance.

I don't know, I very reluctant to eat at any restaurant that has had as substantial an E. coli outbreak as they have.

Chipotle is, hands down, the best fast-food available today -- E. coli problems or not.

They are great. Lots of restaurant managers pissed at them though......
Lots of new rules in other companies because of the Chipotle screw ups

Is that what they mean by "fast food?"

One thing I miss about Southern California is real Mexican food. The worst thing is they all seem to not know what "hot" means here. Mild salsa in So Cal is hotter than what they rate hot here.

Chipotle made a couple of mistakes. Whenever you buy from small producers of produce, you run a much larger risk of contamination because the small farms can't afford to invest in the expensive equipment used for microbial testing. As much as people may balk at the idea of large corporate producers, the likelihood of an outbreak is substantially smaller. Same with the use of open range suppliers of meat.
The second mistake was not using more centralized food preparation facilities. The majority of food is prepared in each restaurant. Some exceptions are the beans and carnitas, which are prepared at a central kitchen in Chicago, Illinois. None of the restaurants have freezers, microwave ovens, or can openers.
As you can imagine, the employees at individual restaurants may not have rigorously washed their hands, and even with procedures, cross contamination was more likely.
As well intentioned as Chipotle is, they are always going to be more likely to have problems relative to restaurants that aren't limiting themselves to open range and natural meats, and non-GMO vegetables, and who only bring in fresh food that is processed on site. It's probably amazing they haven't had more problems than they have.
That being said, I used to eat at Chipotle a lot, and I still do occasionally, and I'd agree with Thask. It's tasty, you get a good portion, and it's probably healthier than a lot fast food.

Ironically, they hurt a ton of local suppliers all over the country. We lost some local suppliers because they could not comply with new standards that came out of the Chipotle fiasco.
Btw, we now pay twice what we paid the local suppliers. That's a huge ouch!

E. coli is serious. Doesn't that diminish their quality? Food can be great, but it if it makes you seriously ill it doesn't matter how good it is.
