The Tomato Can San Diego

Fantastic illustration of why it's terrible for racing to see the super stables and concentration of the best horses in the hands of few trainers.

Baffert would be a fool to run any of his other noms in this race, yet it's unfair to his other owners to not run them. And it's worse for racing that they don't run because Baffert doesn't want to threaten his top dog. No good way to slice it.

Not seeing it as unfair to the other owners. They own the horse if they want to run against Arrogate they can.

I would have liked to see Gun Runner nominated to the San Diego. If Arrogate runs the Gun Runner does as well. He already has a solid race under his belt back from Dubai. Catch Arrogate 1st race back at a shorter distance. Gun Runner want's no part of Arrogate at 1-1/4. So give him a shot at 1-1/16 1st race back since Dubai.

Sharp post. I think if Gun Runner enters this race he beats Arrogate given the factors mentioned above. That Whitney purse of 1.25 million is pretty nice though vs 200k purse at Delmar.

126lbs for Arrogate is pretty absurd. At this point why even assign weights?

Gun Runner in the Whitney makes complete sense. Avoid Arrogate and run for a much bigger purse. Only downside is not getting a start over the surface for the BC classic. Unless he decides to ship for the Pacific Classic with the short turn around.

Compared to Arrogate all others are tomato cans IMO. 126 is embarrassing. 128 wouldn't make a difference and it wouldn't look like B.B. is the racing secretary even though we all know he is when he wants to be.
