Slots at Gulfstream
I don't play slot machines due to the house edge on these machines. Because of that fact, one can't beat them in the long run. I walk through our local track, and the slot machine area has plenty of naive people thinking they're going to get rich on the next jackpot, whiich is 'just around the corner'. Slot machines are games of pure luck.
But, I must thank all the naive people playing slot machines at the racetracks. That's because nowadays without the revenue from these machines, thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing would have difficulty in remaining competitive with casinos and other forms of gambling. If it weren't for the losing slot machine players, I might not have that many racetracks to choose from for betting on various forms of racing.
I get a kick out of the owners of new casinos that are being built. They declare..."My business will create jobs and prosperity for our community". What a laugh! Yes they create some low-paying jobs, but as for prosperity, c'mon...the only people that will get prosperous are the owners and/ or executives, plus the various forms of provincial and state governments.
Thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing are different. These are games of skill and luck. They are beatable by the skilled player. I'll stick to these kind of games thank you, as they are challenging enough.
