Don't know yet if flood damage is the reason. But they did have a payment due to the Texas Racing Commission tomorrow.

Three tracks in Texas to cease live racing
Quote:
The management of Gillespie County Fair and the greyhound tracks Gulf Coast Racing and Gulf Greyhound Park have informed the Texas Racing Commission of their intent to cease live racing and simulcasting operations on Thursday. In a letter to the agency, an attorney representing the tracks said they won't pay license fees for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts Sept. 1.

Bad news for Texas racing. Of these three facilities, I think only Gulf Greyhound was running live racing, and even then it was only 20-some-odd days a year. All three were basically OTBs providing revenue to the state, with little to no overhead.

With Texas Racing Commission already facing a budget shortfall, losing this revenue (and the license fees from all three) will only make matters worse.

You know what would help? Allowing ADW wagering. Maybe we'll see Texas change their archaic views on that before it's too late. But I'm not holding my breath.

Actually, Gulf Greyhound's last race was at the end of 2015. They were scheduled for a two month meet starting December 27.

Texas Racing Commission lowered fees after raising them. Gulf Greyhound, Corpus Christi, and The Race Place took a stance against the Texas Racing Commission and TRC caved.
