7-3-14 (Day 1)

1st 16,0000 CLAIMING 1 MILE

#5 FIESTA EXPRESS 3-1
#2 KID ROLLINS 2-1
#3 I’M NO PATSY 9-5
#6 MON PETITE 10-1

#5 FIESTA EXPRESS
Not sure what happened to her last time out. She was in for this price and never got out of last. Prior to that, she was competitive for a higher price. Trainer has backed off her and comes back without a drop. Key race three back where top 3 came back to win at higher with 86, 90, 76 BSF. Deserves another here.

#2 KID ROLLINS
Impressed with her win two back after she stumbled at the start. Ran decently in last as the race might come up tough. Winner came back to run 2nd at the next level and runner-up came back to win vs the same level. She is a hard trying filly. Should be able to run here.

7-4-14 (Day 2)

4th MDN CLM 5.5F
#5 AMERICAN STYLE 5-1
#4 THREE POINT LUKE 5-2
#8 VITE TRIBAL REIGN 5-1
#1 ASTUTELY 4-1

#5 AMERICAN STYLE
Very interesting longshot player here. This trainer has had exactly one first timer in a maiden claiming race. It came exactly a year ago at BHP at this level. That runner was 15-1 and ridden by the same rider, Blanc. It started slow but got up to win. The works were almost the exact same except this one was a bit faster. Comes from the same female pedigree line that produced 2009 BC Sprint winner, Dancing In Silks. Upset.

7-5-14 (Day 3)

9th MSW 5.5F
#3 SWISS INTRIGUE 7-2 Blanc Harrington
#2 INFLAMED 15-1 Perez Abrams
#8 YODELMESOMEMAGIC 5-1 Talamo Cerin
#1 ROPER 3-1 Nakatani Jones

#3 SWISS INTRIGUE
First time starter for trainer Patricia Harrington. This is a 4 year old filly making her debut. She is a full-sister to the stakes place filly also trained by Patricia Harrington, Downhill Diva. She could sprint or run long. Her last race was 2nd at 20-1 in the Paseana at SA. The sire gets 44% with two-year olds and is an excellent debut sire. Harrington had a debut winner on this date in 2013 ridden by Blanc. Love the work pattern.

7-6-14 (Day 4)

5th MSW (2 YO) 5F
#2 SEVE’S ROAD 4-1 Trujillo O’Neill
#5 TWO SIX WINS 3-1 Talamo Pender
#7 DREAM POLICE 2-1 Maldonado Bonde
#4 DELANEY’S JOY 10-1 Martinez O’Neill

#2 SEVE’S ROAD
This is the same female pedigree line that produced 2002 and 2003 G1 winning millionaire, Summer Colony (who she herself produced a two-year old stakes winner). O’Neill has won with 3 of 9 two-year old first timers this year (all at SA) and the work regimen here is very typical of his winners. Quality Road has 2 wins in 4 debut runners so far in his first year. Looks ready.

7-10-14 (Day 5)

RACE 5

5 DON’T TELL ABBEY 4-1 Took a lot of money in debut but no rally; blinkers on; 3 works
3 WACKY MISS 7-2 Beat top choice last; winner ran 2nd in a stakes at 12-1 next out
8 WACKETT 8-1 Fav in same race as top 2 but had a poor start; waiting on best
6 DON’TMESSWNESS 3-1 Decent efforts in both starts; 3rd vs same at SA in last at 11-1

5 DON’T TELL ABBEY
3-1 in debut when breaking from the rail. She never really did much in the race. Harrington opts for blinkers 2nd time out in hopes to get her more interested. Harrington 1 for 4 with 2 on the board with 2nd time starters, first time blinkers. Breeding is there to be decent. Dam’s full brother is 2006 Brdrs Cup Sprint winner (earned 2.5 million), Thor’s Echo (also 2nd in Dubai Golden Shaheen).

7-12-14 (Day 7)

RACE 5

7 DR. VINCENSTN 7-2 Trainer, owner, rider had debut 2 year old winner here on July 4th by 2
3 ROWDY DYLAN 9-5 Took little action in debut but he was really coming at the winner late
5 SADDLE SOAR 15-1 Exits a key race at TUP; ducked out at the start of debut; can run here
2 POPSRACER 4-1 25-1 debut resulted in a well-beaten 3rd but only a head out of 2nd place

7 DR. VINCENSTEIN
4 runners from last at TUP for Saddle Soar have come back to win, including 3 for Pearson from that race, two that have run in stakes (a winner and a 2nd). This one has been working for his debut at Dixie Downs in Utah and here at LA. Trainer, owner, rider had a firster with the same work pattern go wire to wire here on July 4th as the 2-1 favorite. Clockers impressed with works.

7-13-14 (Day 8) - FINAL DAY

RACE 3 WL PROCTOR MEM 100,000 STAKES 6 FURLONGS
1 BAD READ SANCH 9-5 Took off from rivals in the lane in debut; can be any kind
2 WAKE UP NICK 7-2 Two for two after the 125k stakes win in last; new rider
4 STORY TO TELL 5-2 2nd in SA Juv; closed well to just miss to Wake Up Nick
6 PERADVENTURE 4-1 Took action in debut and ran to the betting; sneaky here

1 BAD READ SANCHEZ
Went off favored in his debut but a lukewarm 5-2. He ran like a 1-9 shot as he ran with the speed from the rail, saving ground, and then just opened up without really being asked in the lane. That move was breathtaking and he looked to have much more in the tank. Notice that Gutierrez rode Wake Up Nick for O’Neill and was aboard him for the SA Juv 125k stakes win in last. However, he chooses to stay right here. They know this one is special. Inside post could be tricky if he doesn’t break. Nice work since last.

BEST LONGSHOT CHANCE - #6 PERADVENTURE (4-1)

9-5-14 **FREE TODAY**

R1 CLM 6k – 5.5F - DIRT
7 YOUONLYLIVEONCE 7-2
8 PRIVATE BOUNTY 5-1
3 SINGLE LAUNCH 9-5
1 COLD BAY 5-1

#7 YOUONLYLIVEONCE
Was 2nd beaten just a head for 5k at LA at 7-2 in last. Was closing fast to one that came back to win an 870 stakes race at 5-1. Has run well at this distance (6 of 11 in the money) and will appreciate the added ground. Trainer is 29% with limited stock.

#8 PRIVATE BOUNTY
Winner of 163k (and 51k just last year). He has not run well for Taylor but is facing the weakest level of his career. Clockers caught him working well recently. Was a length behind the top choice in the July 10th race won by Senator Bob. Expecting better here.

9-6-14

R1 CLAIMING 16,000 - 1M - DIRT
4 PUTAHEXONHER 7-2 Baze Carava
2 STRACCIATELLA 6-1 Desormeaux Garcia
1 INCREDIBLE JOU 3-1 Bejarano Cerin
7 PARADA 5-2 Perez Papaprodrm

#4 PUTAHEXONHER
Claimed from a last place finish in last at DMR. He was 3-1 in that spot and was supposed to run better. He had the blinkers on for the first time and was pulling early in the race. The new connections remove them. In tough 2 back, was steadied at the start and couldn’t get the lead. Speed rider. Nice DMR works since last.

9-7-14

R1 CLAIMING 8,000 - 1M - DIRT

3 HARLINGTON NIGHT 8-5 Pedroza Cerin
2 TIZ FUTURITY 6-1 Pereira Sherlock
6 INDYGO ANDY 10-1 Steiner Bellocq
1 ADRENALINE SHOT 4-1 Antongrgi Garcia

#3 HARLINGTON NIGHT
Improved dramatically on the move back to Cerin. Had this one last year and got two easy wins going long at Santa Anita. Faces a pretty soft field here. The rail runner should set the pace but hasn’t been able to kick on. Will inherit the lead late.

#2 TIZ FUTURITY

Nibbling at higher levels at DMR and SA. Only win came on the dirt at Santa Anita. Gets a pretty massive rider change here. Could be a contested pace up front. Will be in the late mix.

9-12-14

RACE 7 CLM 16,000 - 6F - DIRT
3 EDDIES CURL 2-1
1 SHARED IMAGE 7-2
4 BIRD IN LOVE 5-1
7 NATAL 3-1

#3 EDDIES CURL
Always felt this Cal-bred filly had talent. She was all dressed up with nowhere to go in her last start. She went tucked in back of runners turning for home, waited and then moved outside, then back inside and never really got to stretch her legs. She was 3rd after missing the break here two back with Pereira aboard. Drops to lowest level of her career. She is sitting on a big race here, might open up on them late.

RACE 2 CLM 10,000 - 1M - DIRT

4 LEONA PEGASUS 6-1 Duran Brinkerhoff
5 PLAZARITA 9-5 Quinonez Gutierrez
6 KID ROLLINS 7-5 Pedroza Proctor
2 MY B F F 4-1 Stra Metz

#4 LEONA PEGASUS
This filly is zero for ten with only a third on synthetic. If you draw the conclusion that she’d rather be on dirt, she really makes a bit of sense here. She was second a nose in an allowance at BOI 3 back. The 3rd place finisher came back to win a straight 40,000 claimer at DMR at 15-1 (on 8-28, 81 Beyer). Been prompting the pace from wide post draws in SoCal. Might control speed inside.

9-18-14

RACE 8 MDN CLAIMING 20,000 - 6F - DIRT
1 PLAY MAKER 8-1
2 AERIAL DANCER 6-1
9 ZIM N THE MAILMAN 4-1
11 ARGENTINE 8-1

#1 PLAY MAKER
Tried routing in last and may have been a bit too close to a fast early pace and he tired in the lane. That race was uncommonly strong. 7th place finisher came back to win here vs this class at 8-1. 4 others came back to run in the money. Handled the dirt well. Nice price.

#2 AERIAL DANCER
Not sure what we’ll get from this gelding who is dropping in class. He was 3rd at 50k three back and ran 3rd in MSW in the debut at 26-1. Was 5th in only start here in a race that was pretty strong. The 4th place finisher returned to run 3rd at 40k. Can win or run up the track.

R7 OPT CLAIMING 62,000 - 5.5F - DIRT

4 SUDDEN SUNDAY 15-1 Van Dyke Miyadi
6 MY SWEET ADDCTN 8-5 Bejarano Jones
2 HOME JOURNEY 2-1 Baze Puype
8 SHEZA FINA 8-1 Delgadillo Glatt

#4 SUDDEN SUNDAY
Sib to the undefeated Sunday Rules. She was a game 2nd at 8-1 at GG in a similar race last time out. Prior to that she was 5th in a key stakes race. 1st and 3rd came back to win stakes races. 4th was Brillant Melody, won came back to win over a couple of these. 7th, Qiaona, ran 2nd in the 151k Solano Beach. She stumbled in dirt start five back.
