Morning is still morning and the post times were shifted due to the heat. Most did not agree with the idea and yet all these tracks are running with it. Now go wipe that egg off of your face.

Congratulations on seeing a suggestion received well by some track managements. Don't let it go to your head.

To me early morning is 8 am or so. They were never going to race at 8. We play tennis in the morning to beat the heat here in OKC. We play around 10 or 10:30. If our group asked to move it to 8, I'd laugh at them. Big difference. Speaking of eggs, I don't even have them until 10.

I think one of the Breeders' Cup cards in California started at 9. As I recall, people started tricking into the track at 10.

If we started live racing at 8:00am, I'd probably turn my life around.

Churchill handled $2.5 million on Wednesday with the early post. Probably slightly more than half of what they would have handled with a normal post time.

I don't know anything about CD, but 50% could be terrible or still Ok compared to cancelling and getting zero depending on their costs for opening and how future handle is impacted. Maybe they will learn something.

They knew the handle was going to drop. It was never a concern. The concern was losing the entire day that if closed they would never get back. There is much more to this other then handle being lost but you obviously from this post and others don’t care. For all connections involved of course finding a way to run is always the better decision. Several tracks have followed suit because it’s the right thing to do.

Cancelled days usually get made up. They are not lost for good, forever.

You would think if anyone has some insights into night racing it would be CD because they've run night cards. Like I said, maybe they learned something from this and can make a more informed decision about whether they are better off starting early, late, or cancelling and on which days. Obviously though, canceling wasn't an attractive decision or they wouldn't have even tried the early start.

I think it sometimes gets more complicated because the condition book is out and horses are trained and aiming for certain races. If a card gets cancelled, they can probably squeeze in some of the cancelled races on other days if races don't fill, but you don't want to have to wait several weeks for a race if your horse is ready. You'd rather they run the card as scheduled.
