Dont know why they don't stay at the SPA for the whole summer instead of coming back to AQU for four weeks after the Bel stakes. Im sure hotel rates would be lower and more available.

Don’t want to ruin the boutique feel of Saratoga more than they already have. It is a fragile thing. That is my guess

The Oaklawn "vibe" is very different these last couple of years with the season going from early December to May (almost 6 months) vs. the old mid-January through mid April (3+ months). Definitely feeling a little less "special" and a little more run-of-the-mill than before.

Saratoga Race Course would not be the special place it is with an extended three plus month meeting.
The area does not get the vacationers until public schools dismiss in mid to late June. Officially, the tourist/vacation season begins with the Independence Day holiday.
Also, the facility and grounds are not set up for the use it takes for an additional month of racing.
Leave it the way it is.
When I first visited the Spa, the meeting was 24 days. Began around the 1st of August and concluded the Saturday before Labor Day weekend. Racing 6 days per week. First with Sundays dark. Then once the NY State legislature approved Sunday wagering, Tuesday became the dark day,.
