Gordon Jones
I just saw that Gordon Jones To Win is back in print-at least in England. It's actually a decent book. Gordon used to give these out at his handicapping seminars in the 70s-actually his daughter would hand them out, free rolls and then discuss the card and lay out picks-ah the good ol days.

I would imagine that the book presently available is a copy of the 1976 publication from Karman Communications Inc.. Huey Mahl gave it a high rating.
The ones given away at the seminars in the early 1970s were very rough and can't really be compared to the 1976 edition. I know that the seminar copies were being sold by mail and many buyers were upset as it was simply quick-and-dirty. No, not *that* kind of dirty.

I think his preface, "I still think," makes anything following okay.

Sal Sinatra

Wrote two handicapping books and a useful speed and pace chart. Meet him at a Sartin seminar in 1982. He was a very quiet and reserved man. No relation to Frank! JimL

Thanks Iggy,

I never realized there was a difference. Do you have both?

This raises a question: Are second edtion/ reissued or updated books ever worth another look? I believe Quinn updated Handicappers Condition Book-
It was his one book that I thought was worthwhile.

Gordon Jones said that about the only diff in current edition and orig is that the speed charts have been updated to reflect the faster times. I have orig ed. and see no need for new one. The new one was put out to meet a demand for the orig out of print book.

Gordon Jones!

Lefty,
I thought Gordon was working on a new book? At least that was what I was told at Sam's Town in November. Any updates regarding that info? Is he back in person at Sam's Town now or is he sending in his picks? Great guy!
Thanks,
Maxspa

Gordon Jones

In response to Topcat, at one time I had both books by Jones but the original quick and dirty one has long gone. Have the original which is in tatters as the glue dried out. Mahl said that there had been complaints about the speed tables and thought that was because they had been based on California racing. Can't see much use nowadays with all the ratings available. Other than that it was a lot better than most of the stuff at that time. Anyone got the new one?

Jones Update!

Lefty,
Thanks for the Update! Without Gordon's presence or Pat McQuiggan, the racebook would be very quiet!

He did put me on a horse that paid $200 once. Interesting story: he called me once after the OJ was arrested for murder-said he was too upset to handicap and couldn’t understand it-said he had lunch with OJ a few weeks before and that OJ had insisted that he and Nicole would be getting back together. I remembered that when OJ claimed to not even be thinking about Nicole.

Thanks

Read the footnote on this page for betting software where it mentions who developed the software.

Could this be the same Steve Martin mentioned above? He loved to bet exotics and was not a computer type himself.

Thanks Bob,

I just got a note back from Horse-Pro saying the same thing.

Whatever happened to the other Steve Martin?
I'm afraid he may have passed away?

To others: Here's what I got back on the Horse-Pro Software-
I haven't bought it (yet) and can't vouch for it-I'd be in right away if they had a pick 3 module-I suppose i could use the pick 4 module and just put in a singleton for the 4th leg and use that.

Note the no refund policy down below-

Anybody know what ever became of him. I remember his blazing speed. Think he won a stake or 2 then disapeered.
