What are you looking to invest in? Are you interested in any industry in particular?
As far as TVG for the stock market, Cramer's "Mad Money" comes to mind. There are a couple of financial news shows on during the daytime on various networks. Bloomberg News is another good source.
You can by stock directly from some companies. Go to the website of a company you're interested in and try to find out if they are publicly traded. If they are, you can then call their investor relations number and ask if you can buy shares of stock directly from them. Some companies will do this and send you the share certificates. If you buy with a broker you will probably never see the certificates.
You can also open a brokerage account at robinhood.com. Robinhood charges ZERO commissions.
If you want to invest in startup companies there are some websites that accept micro-investments. These are very risky, but if you get a good one you can make a ton of money.
