Preakness Result and Figure
IMO, that was outstanding performance by the top two.
Beyer gave the race a 105.
It looks (stress looks) to me like whoever made the Pimlico figures has the track fast 16 early in the card, fast 20 for the BES, & then fast 27 for Preakness. So they have the track getting faster at the end of the day.
We'll see what other figure makers made of it.

I'm a little surprised, I thought that the Beyer would be higher. It didn't look to me that the track was that fast. I agree, I thought the top two ran very strong. It could be that Art Collector wasn't on yesterday, he did miss two months, but he's a fast horse and he couldn't keep up to them.

Another guess, BRISS will be 112. I think it is closer to 114.

I agree. They pulled off and were running extremely fast at the end. An obviously very strong race. It's crazy to project the number here, but that's apparently what Beyer did.

I used the same variant for the routes and am only two points higher. There were only two of them and came after a long break with two intervening turf races. All the previous races were sprints, which at Pimlico are generally slower variant wise on Beyer because of the very short run up at six furlongs.

That's at least a better methodology than a special Preakness-only variant as Beyer apparently did.

Do we really know that though? It isn't like the 1m 3/16ths speed chart is set in stone for every track. Probably the first time in a while there has even been a 9f dirt race on Preakness Day. Usually they are all 8.5.

It looks like I misread the Beyer chart.
There was some kind of split between the sprints and routes (he has the routes much faster) and a tweak to the Preakness figure, but I was off on the Preakness variant. If anything he may have tweaked it up a tad relative to the BES.
Sorry. I need new glasses, but with the pandemic I've been putting it off. lol
Either way though, that was a pretty good field and the top two crushed them. It seems like a higher quality race than a 105 given the horses and the gap.

I misspoke. It looks like I was off on the BES variant.

This is what I thought, didn't want to call you out.
The split isn't that unusual I'd guess at Pimlico, and in this case it could very well be a time of day split instead of a distance split.

Thanks. At least I eventually caught it. Unfortunate that a former QA guy can't see straight anymore.
