Castellano and Agent and Maybe Chad Brown Breakup

This is kinda of a big deal

So apparently Castellano and his agent broke up over him verbally committing to both Brown and Pletcher in the Travers.

He's on Destin and backed out of the call on Gift Box. I'm assuming Javier directly committed to Brown while the agent had him on Destin. Brown had to scramble to get Junior on Gift Box. Junior has ridden 22 times for Brown in the last two years so he's going deep on the bench.

I'm curious...

How this affects his business with Brown moving forward. The article says Brown has already taken him off horses as a result.
Who his new agent is
Will Ron Anderson cut Rosario loose and take his book

Good question.

Why would you take him off Flintshire other than spite? Serious question for those who know better - how much of a say does the owner get here? If I'm Juddmonte and Castellano has won 3 graded US stakes on my monster $8 million winning horse - I want him up there tomorrow, and I'm assuming that's what we'll see.

Ray Paulick said on the Friday Show, Javier wanted to ride Gift Box instead of Destin and that's where the agent split came from.

I took that as an upgrade for Gift Box and didn't think it would impact his rides with Chad.

He split with the agent, not with Chad.

Q. Serious question for those who know better - how much of a say does the owner get here?

A. If they are committed to their trainer, and hard to imagine that any owner wouldn't be committed to Chad at this point, they don't want any say. They know that the trainer is very upset and they stick by their trainer assuming that the long term affect is a positive one.
Hope that helps.

Does it matter? I could spend the next 24 hours in a hot box wearing a wrestler's rubber suit, get a leg up on Flintshire and the horse would still win....
All kidding aside, there must be other riders who would leap at the chance to get that mount.....Flintshire is almost surely going to win his BC race. What jockey would not want that opportunity?....
it would be like getting traded to the Cubs right now.

I have a question....What is the maximum number of jockeys an agent can represent at one race meeting/track/jurisdiction?

You're assuming and you're curious.

So, why don't you phone Chad and ask him?

Good luck...if you do so.

In NY it is two, should be listed in the condition book I believe. Not sure about others, might be different.

I'd disagree. The owner of Flintshire would and should be furious if Chad took his regular rider off due a tiff over another horse in the barn. He'd put that jockey back on unless he wants the horse out of his barn Sunday morning.

If Juddmonte is the owner then they have a lot of say in the jock.

If its one of Browns owners who owns a 20K claimer then they have no say.

All depends on the owner and the quality of horse they have.

If you have a 20 claimer with Chad, you almost know you get one of the top jockeys in the country because of him.

I've been in partnerships for 5k claimers and the partnership manager kicked the trainer's go-to jockey off the horse because they didn't like the way they rode our horse.

Most of the time it comes down to who's available and if you have a horse with Chad you have a lot of great options. An owner can probably change it if they are unhappy.

I'm bristling with excitement to read your other seven posts.

By the way, on another topic....this thread is a hoot.
