The low prices may indicate that the burdens of tariffs are falling on foreign producers and on intermediate goods producers. This can happen when export prices fall in reaction to tariffs, either because manufacturers seek to maintain market share but discounting their goods or because foreign currencies decline against the dollar.

You said the tariffs would hurt the economy, raise prices, cause inflation and kill jobs.
None of that happened which is all the proof you need.

I said that tariffs effective enough to help American businesses would result in increased prices to American consumers.
The effects of steel tariffs have apparently not passed all the way through to consumers yet, but are having a strong impact on steel users. Consumers will get it in the end.
Quote:
So far, trade wars don’t seem to be as "good, and easy to win" as U.S. President Donald Trump promised a year ago when he imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
The scorecard shows a split decision. U.S. steelmakers Nucor Corp. and United States Steel Corp. saw significant profit gains in 2018. But manufacturers that buy the metal -- led by Caterpillar Inc., a top three U.S. exporter -- say the tariffs have hurt profits, spurred layoffs and forced some companies to rework supply chains in ways that undercut use of American workers.
U.S. manufacturing PMI, an indicator of economic health for the sector, has dropped steadily since August, and in February sat at its lowest level since Trump won the election.
Manufacturing showed "a lot of momentum coming out of 2017 into 2018," said John Mothersole, an IHS Markit analyst in Washington. "But all that momentum evaporated across the course of the year.”
Mothersole sees the tariffs as a tax on U.S. manufacturers, and said he believes they’re likely a drag on the economy as a whole. After all, he said, a lot more people make things from steel than produce it.

Nice if you own a steel company. Not nice if you make stuff out of steel, or buy stuff made out of steel.

What about if you were unemployed and now work at a company that uses steel as an input?
Why is it the president's job to pick the winners and losers here?

His job is to have a good economy and that means picking winners and losers. That is what the tax code does too.

So Hair Furor appoints Barr to be Attorney General on the basis of a 19 page memo
arguing that a US President cannot commit 'Obstruction Of Justice'
simply because he is the President.
Then Barr receives a lengthy report from Mueller and turns out a four page memo stating ... SURPRISE!
in his estimation Doofus Drumph has not committed 'Obstruction Of Justice'.
America! ... What a country!
