Think that's amazing? Wait until the military is forced to lower its standard in the name of "leveling the playing field" -- or in the name of "there should be no winners or losers in life".

My granddaughter went in recently and it has nothing to do with "leveling the playing field" !

So the military wants people with all these qualifications. Guess what. So does Corporate America. That's who DOD is competing with. There are three options. - Lower your standards.
- Up the pay.
- Bring back the draft.
If we bring back the draft we can both lower the pay and up the standards. Plus we can take the pick of the crop.
Explain to me how a tattoo negatively impacts one's ability to fight.

I agree with you. Sorry, I should have warned you to sit down before reading.

The draft is discriminatory and inherently unfair. And it is probably unconstitutional.

Ultimately a military often decides a nations fate. You'd rather argue that it may be discriminatory and unfair?

YES!
Principle above all.

They will bring back the draft when they need it. Right now they don't needed it. It is not a question of fairness and never was, it is a question of needed.
Our lousy schools are to blame for much of the problems in lack of quality candidates for military service. From what I have seen, the military is now getting a lot of kids who gave college a try and dropped out for whatever reason and are looking for some direction to their lives.

I argue that with no draft now, any attempt to revive it would face huge opposition and would be challenged legally. Given the legal and social changes since it was abolished, a draft that didn't include women would be discriminatory, and one that did would be socially impossible.
And for those not around or not politically aware of Vietnam, there was a lot of criticism of the draft at the time for being racist. Civil rights activists now would protest any draft on those grounds.

The tattoo-thing might turn out to be the greatest draft dodge in history.
I guarantee that they will drop that condition if there is a war-time need for conscription.

A lot of former servicemen of my era and earlier have tattoos, but not on the face or neck. I have seen them on the back of the hand though.

These are the same young people that we are trying to get interested in "Horse Race Handicapping:"....
