They should have hired Vic. Hasn't Durkin been retired for 10 years or so?
At least the Belmont usually has a short field making the race easier to call.

Well, that in of itself is a fantastic reason to watch the Belmont telecast...even if the race turns up itself not so ideal.
The folks at Fox are to be applauded for doing this...what a great idea.
I don't care how long it's been...the chance to hear Durkin call one more race is amazing...he was the BEST EVER race caller in modern racing history.
Period.

You’re kidding right?
Are you looking for some kinda title as the president of the Vic fan club?

He's old. Calling races is a young person's vocation.
Obviously he'll be fine if some horse wins by 4 lengths or something. But if it's a blanket finish or some horse is coming up the inside or whatever, it may turn out to be "cover your ears".

It may have been before your time(and to you not modern racing history) but Fred Caposella was the best in my opinion

In my mind, he was before what I'm talking about...he's part of the "old guard" of announcers.
He would probably be my cutoff point, actually...

I love it. It's a nice gesture and goodwill move with really no downside...at least to normal people.

If Durkin isn't the greatest ever, he's on the short list. Great to hear him call another race.

Wow. Had to check the calendar - thought maybe DRF was pranking a late April Fool's gag on us.
Durkin made the Breeder's Cup special right out of the gate. Maybe he'll have a chance to call a Triple Crown winner - looking forward to his Belmont call.
