Marylou Whitney has passed. A moment of silence was just observed at Saratoga.

I was upstate last weekend. I heard chatter among the locals that she was not in the best of health.
RIP Mrs Whitney

Americas Day At The Races just did a tribute to her. Never knew she was prepared to withdraw her runner in the 2009 Preakness so that Rachel would be able to run (this was in response to a nefarious plot between Zayat and the owners of Mine That Bird to deny Rachel a spot in the starting gate)

What a gracious woman, one who will never be forgotten!
May she rest in eternal peace

To me, she symbolized the old upper class that loved racing. RIP.

Saddened by this ......

Although I don’t know tons about her or never met her personally , I have two fond memories of her.

1. It was her horse ( thank you marylou ?) that ran behind Judy the Beauty in the breeders cup that made my trifecta and superfecta pay massive which lead to the best single financial race day of my life

2. Even better than the story above was from the spring meet 2018 we finally had the best weather for a keeneland weekend that you could ever imagine ( it made up for all the terrible weather including the flood we endured a few years ago while we were there ). Our friend Michael Blowen told us although we always purchase the same seats each trip he had a surprise for us, to come down and meet him at box 119. We arrive and low and behold it was Mary Lou Whitney’s box. He called her when he didn’t see her there after race 1 and she said no she wasn’t going to races that day and ABSOLUTELY we could use the box.

Just a classy classy person, and I hope she rests in peace

RIP Mary Lou Whitney. Thanks for the use of your clubhouse box all those mornings at Saratoga. Sorry for the pop tart crumbs.

I have never forgiven the New York fans who booed her for beating Smarty Jones in the Belmont. What was she supposed to do? Not enter her 3 year old, who was better than Smarty Jones at 12 furlongs?

Thanks to the OP for creating this thread to a woman who most certainly deserves our final good bye. Without her, there would be no racing in Saratoga Springs today. Almost impossible to walk very far in this town without seeing something beautiful that she's not responsible for.
Truly the end of an era.
