Niatross

Question for you guys: is he the unquestioned GOAT? Super dumb about sulky racing and just curious. Watched some of his videos..WOW!

I do know he was a "pacer."

My dad thought he was the best ever. I think he saw him in the “Little Brown Jug” Talked about him for days.

I was about 20 yrs old and I can remember that horse traveled a ton. He would travel with a police escort in some places. I had a buddy whose dad rode a motorcycle for the Sheriff’s department and would follow along as they passed through …….

You might like this. A bit lengthy and a little grainy in spots, but still pretty good.

Not the greatest of all time. Only raced as a 3 year old and the competition that year was not that good. His breeding barn performance was lack luster at best.
Please take a look at Somebeachsomewhere for a resume worthy of best 3 year old all time.
Note: Albatross was a better racehorse.

I’ll take his clocking at face value. Tho mofo could run!

I was kind of fond of “Nero” I saw him run and thought he was a badass when I was a teen

Do you have to ask such a stupid question? I was there when he was "Pacing a hole in the wind" and shattered the Hollywood Park track and world record, I do not think Clint even got after him in the stretch. November 15, 1980,

American Pacing Classic. He set a track and world under a rocking chair drive.

Was "rocking chair drive" a Joe Alto phrase?

Two years ago, Bulldog Hanover entered the chat with an amazingly effortless win streak that included a world record. But now that the harness game is even more of an niche thing than ever, most 'racing' fans have probably never heard of him.

I'm kind of surprised mountainman hasn't picked up on some Meadows/HanoverFarms/Pa-bred/Dave Pallone vibes over there by some kind of osmosis.

I stole the "I kill you" from Achmed the dead terrorist. I then realized maybe most people would not get it. Even though I totally disagree with your take
I do not condone violence over a difference of opinion on sports. I do wonder if you are just trolling. The reason why the competition was not good was because Niatross made them look bad. He was on a tour, breaking track records at every stop, sometimes by seconds, not just 1/5ths. If he had raced as an older horse he probably would have went even faster. He often
broke records with driver Clint Galbraith not even shaking the reigns at him.

When I was younger I made decent coin betting the pacers and trotters at
Hollywood Park, Fairplex and Los Alamitos. Strangely enough the older I got the more my win % dropped. I think the internet age killed my edge. Anyway
obviously times for pacers and trotters have dropped from the Niatross era.
What do the experts attribute that to? Is it the tracks, the sulkies, breeding, drugs?

I was at the finish line for the Meadowlands Pace on a mind boggling humid night in 1980.There were dozens of Who Shot JR T-shirts being worn by those in that huge crowd. When the horse came down the stretch to win handily,I thought:"Isn't this beautiful?"

I believe Albatross went from last to first around the final turn at Freehold for a 1972 race.

I was, but was grinning when I typed that. Poor choice of words, probably should have typed "Are you joking?" Hollywood Park harness was the first racing I attended as an adult with my own ride and I was blown away when I saw Niatross annihilate the locals breaking the track and world record at the time without even being asked. I did not mean to offend by my post.
