When I used to drive up to Toronto all the time, I had no idea what the gallon price was, what with metric and liters, and all that crap. But I was sure I was getting screwed!

That is the first round of the carbon tax, added to their high fuel cost.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! That means you will have a very huge & intrusive government bureaucracy checking the mileage on your car. You want the IRS for cars? What an idiotic proposal. It will probably cost more money in paying for the bureaucracy than it will collect in taxes.
While I oppose increasing gas taxes for "carbon reduction" at least it is the most efficient and least intrusive way to do it. Mileage tracking is just one more way to reduce our liberty and increase government's violation of our lives.
It is none of the government's business how many miles I or any other American citizen drives.

Canada has an idiot for a Prime Minister and several green climate change Premiers at his altar.
They are intent on bankrupting Canada and hate anything to do with Oil and industry.
Canadians get what they deserve for voting in so many Liberal and Socialist leaders.
Carbon taxes across Canada are a scam.
The U.S. is fortunate that Trump did not swallow the Paris Climate Accord tripe.

Those aren't taxes, they are carbon credits that you should feel happy about paying to save the world from certain dim policy destruction.

But it is the government's business to keep roads free of potholes and bridges structurally sound, and the way it is currently funded is with either a gas tax or a toll. What's your solution to making sure cars that don't run on gas (like hybrid or electric vehicles) pay their fair share of road and bridge maintenance? It's an idea, not a proclamation.

Allocate some of the taxes paid on natural gas, a big source of electricity, to road repairs.
Or put a state surcharge as a surrogate for gas taxes on the annual license plate fee for electric cars.
Has anyone seen any estimates of the bureaucratic costs of administering a mileage tax? That would be federal and state taxes.
