She actually broke with the field, not slowly at all, but bobbled, bumped with the horse inside of her, and then dropped back. She also saved ground on the turn and angled out very late. Judging by the times during the day, her final time seems unspectacular. Will wait for the fig, but the best thing she might have going for her is the pedigree says she will get better with distance.

Her dam was a very nice turf horse that ran for Todd as well. The other two foals from the dam to race did very little running.

Didn't Todd Pletcher say something about "starting slow" at the Gulfstream Park meet a couple of weeks ago?

He's like 6 for 10.

He's 4 for 5 with first time starters, with the loser finishing second.

watching the head-on replay shows you are correct

it is also nice this year that AQU and GP are staggering starts so it is easy to watch them both

We've always staggered with them. Sometimes, though, they have been known to stagger into us:-)

Avow got a 62 Beyer.

That was a somewhat suspect field. Florida breds tend to be a lot better than the typical statebreds, but it was still a restricted race and didn't look like an especially strong one at that. Those are not the kind of higher quality horses that will be unveiled at GP in coming weeks. She was so much better than them though, she probably has a future, especially because the Arrogates figure to develop a little later and going longer.

Maybe we need a battle of the sexes between her and Script.

Pletcher finally cooling off over at Gulfstream.

He's only something like 14 for 28 now...
