weak crop
Is this a weak crop? Personally, I think it is a decent crop. I have seen worse. For example, I think Justify last year beat much weaker. The older horse division is not strong at all which is why Thunder Snow is over here as someone mentioned. IMO Unless Catholic Boy is a monster on dirt, its Thunder Snow or a 3-year-old in the classic. Weak or not weak somebody has to win.

Horses miss significant time with relative frequency. He'll be back unless he is physically unable to EVER run again. Always a possibility but seems relatively unlikely. He sure couldn't get much of a stud deal at this point ( if he could even get one at all ).

Therein lies the reason he will be back. If at all possible.
I'm wondering if he falls into the Monarchos category.
He ran the race of his life.......to never be the same again. Over the years I think we've seen that a few times.

Maybe a safer statement to say post-Travers, but I was thinking along these lines myself. Not necessarily weak per se, but slightly weaker than average and also with no real standout (at least when speaking of 3yo males on dirt).

Country House seemed to particularly take to the slop that day. He was far more in the bridle than usual. It's not like it was his first sloppy track. He just seemed to particularly like this one.
He has some real ability. Perhaps with more time he can be a productive member of the older division next year. Wouldn't hurt, that's for sure.

Heavy favorite for Worst-Managed Horse of the Year; especially perplexing considering the good year the trainer is having.
Mercifully, it appears he's on a break as he has not breezed since his allowance drubbing.
If there's a silver-lining perhaps Chad Brown will use that horse's plight as a precautionary tale when managing Honest Mischief, who also tried Grade 1 company right out of a much ballyhooed maiden score.

...and possibly ran the best race.
I do wonder if he will try a NW1X before the Jerkens. That horse is very good.

Honest Mischief switched to his right lead on the far turn (similar to Maximum Security in the KY Derby), which probably did not help his cause. Might have been instigated by being carried out or brushed slightly by Wendell Fong.
Might also have done the same thing in his maiden score but the replay supplied by the Keeneland website annoyingly alternates between a pan and a head-on view.
Hasn't worked back yet but its been less than 2 weeks since the race.
At any rate, has a potent turn of foot on the far turn. Maybe they should try Calvin Borel instead of the 4-wide sweeps...

I think it's too early to tell.
Just take a look at last year, early on it looked like Justify and not much else.
Upon further review.........it was a strong class:
Catholic Boy
Firenze Fire
Flameaway
Good Magic
McKinzie
Promises Fulfilled
Tenfold
Vino Rosso

They're both stone cold machines.
You just can't beat em.....
I was going with the 2018 profile types.
But yeah.........Mitole/World of Trouble belong on any top 4yo list.
The BC races are going to be loaded this year.

Are these horses really that great or just the survivors (Good Magic not included)?

Can the same not be said of any of the others when one horse dominates. Is he a good horse dominating a weak crop or a superb horse dominating a strong crop. The closest one can get is is looking at the speed figures, of which you have some of the best, CJ. So your opinion is probably the best. Which of these do you see, or maybe somewhere in between.
