I'm pretty sure the Navy and the Air Force do not let guys in their 50s fly fighter planes. It's a fantasy targeting senior citizens. No, thanks.

So you're saying you don't feel the need for speed?

Actually they do, as long as you are current and pass the flight physical you can continue to fly. If you work on a base but are not an assigned member of a squadron, you can be assigned a squadron for flying purposes only. You don't fly as much, but you can fly.

Why do I get the feeling that one of the pilots Tom is training is the Son/Daughter He Never Knew He Had?

34 years is a long time between sequels.

Not a big fan of Tom Cruise the person, but his movies are damn entertaining, especially if you like dog fights in supersonic airplanes. Been a fan ever since seeing him in All the Right Moves about a star h.s. defensive back shot in Johnstown Pa. Craig T. Nelson was the closest thing to my h.s. coach, Frank Reich who was a scary sob. I ran into him(Frank) before he passed at my uncle's funeral and he actually remembered me and was a nice guy. We talked about Frank Jr. who was still playing for Carolina.

As to Cruise, he's made a lot of great action movies, sci-fi, spies, lawyers, damaged war vets, hit men, pool sharks, sports agents, bartenders, samarai, and a vampire for crying out loud. About the only genres he seems to have missed are westerns and musicals.

Once again....you’re wrong. Lots of Wing Commanders and such we’re flying in their fifties when I was in.

I knew a Marine Aviator that flew in his 60’s.
