What is there to defend?
Khashoggi isn't an American citizen, he is simply a US based-Saudi journalist with an O-visa which grants temporary residence in the US for up to 3 years. He was killed/murdered in an entirely different country well outside of our jurisdiction.
There have been at least 7 journalists murdered in Mexico, just miles south of our border. Are we doing anything about them? There are hundreds of journalists murdered worldwide every year. Do we ever do anything in those cases?
There have been 21 Saudi visa's revoked since this incident. We could invoke the Maginstky act, but I don't see that as doing any good. Kind of odd that Dem Senators and Putin agree that we should act in some form or fashion, but I'm sure Putin wants us to do so for other reasons.
The Middle East is a shitshow, and Saudi Arabia is one of our allies in that extreme region.
What should have been done has already passed. US intelligence knew something was brewing well in advance and did not forewarn Khashoggi. Maybe we should bring our intelligence agencies to the forefront for not preventing this injustice?
