He was a very fast horse. That's really all you can say about him.

Who was able to carry his speed a long way
By the way if thats the case why does racing make a big deal about Landaluce's 4 race career?

Was that excel file supposed to be titled "The Best Horses of All Time" or "The Best Horses off the Top of My Head"?
Genuine Risk appears but not Skip Away (among countless others)?
Apparently nothing of note happened in the '80s (except Genuine Risk of course...)

5 races actually, but anyone who ranks her as a great mare alongside Beholder or Shuvee or something is making a huge error.

You keep using this numerical comparison but it makes absolutely no sense. How does six races equal one season for other sports? Lots of all-time great pitchers and quarterbacks play 20 seasons. So you think the average Horse of the Year winner has a 120-race career? If you're going to keep saying it, at least come up with a logical comparison.

She had 5 races, and she became ill and died. She was only 2. She wasn't babied along for years and then retired. Who knows what she could have become.

Not to switch sports but notice how the complete game has gone the way of the dinosaur? They are becoming as rare as a one hitter.

Besides that, those 6 starts were over two seasons, not one.

More multi-sport analogies: it's like how in horse racing there are only five total 10 furlong Grade 1s on dirt for open company throughout the year and at least 2 of those (the Big Cap & Hollywood Gold Cup) should be downgraded to Grade 3. Don't have high hopes for the JCGC, either, although the calendar switch may keep it going at a high level.
Everything dumbed down to 9 furlongs presumably because modern horses "can't go the distance".

No, I'm saying you have to have a semblance of a complete career to be great. It's not a strict ratio- it's that six starts is not a career. It's nothing- and Flightline is therefore nothing compared to the great horses of history. He's just a horse who didn't run long enough to amass career achievements.

I don't blame very much on the Breeders' Cup, but that one probably is the fault of the Classic. If everything else is essentially a prep for the BC Classic, the tendency is always going to be to make those races shorter. And that is what has happened.

Such an uproar over a simple spreadsheet!
Column G pretty much says it all Best Horsefor a certain year.
Who was better than FL this year? Clearly, NOT Secretariet!
I found the sheet, unlike most comments in thread, entertainibf to sit down and enjoy it, and relive many fonf me,ories.
THANK YOU to the OP for sharing it.
