Still hoping and wishing that Dave Rodman from the Maryland circuit gets a shot at one of these big gigs.

I liked Collmus too, my wife couldn't tell the difference between him and Durkin LOL.

Seems a weird time to leave, he was in the prime of his career...I imagine there is more to this story.

He tried more and more to sound like Durkin, but in the end, it didn't work so well

Can I make up something? He is here in Florida or was. I saw him going in Christina lee’s with Ron Nicolette. Friday, the day before pegasus pretty sure. Coulda been Saturday morning i forget. I stopped him for second, shook hands, but he was walking briskly, and both him and Nicoletti had serious-face look. At same time I saw Tim Ritvo having serious convo with someone, and when that ended they also went into Christina Lee’s. Larry was in jeans - tshirt.

You're implying "couldn't come to terms" means Larry turned down $750,000 a year. Sorry, I find that VERY hard to believe.

I didn't say he turned down $750k a year. He was already making that. You ask your good friend Larry if he asked for a 50k raise or not. My brothers track record isn't perfect but he sports a very high batting average when it come to the news pipeline.

What does this mean for......Elmer J. Fudd?

Seriously, I can't believe NYRA let him go.
I prefer John myself, but in no way have anything to say bad about Larry. I have years of "experience" with John and that is why.

If they ran 250 cards a year that's $3000 per card when the normal going rate is $200-600 per race day elsewhere.

My BS meter is going off right about now.

From BloodHorse

"I'd like to thank the New York Racing Association for five great years calling memorable races at these wonderful venues," Collmus said. "I will certainly miss the people and places that make NYRA so special, especially the passionate racing fans at Saratoga, but it's the right time for me to move on to the next challenge while continuing my work with NBC Sports."

Bring back Tom Durkin!
Durkin's too old now. Really.

But five years ago, instead of retiring, I thought that they should have let him stay on to call Saratoga, and let someone else do Belmont and Aqueduct until he was ready to call it quits. He owns a house up there and i'm sure he would have agreed.

But that ship has sailed.

I like John Imbriale but he's in his mid-60s; it will be interesting to see the long-term plan for the NYRA job.

Neither could I, he seemed a natural replacement for Durkin.
