If NY has 525K fatalities then I stand corrected. I was looking at Worldometers which shows that there have been 32,215 fatalities in NY. I must have missed the terrible surge of deaths.

Don't feel too bad. A covid fatality is recorded with anyone with the virus. Also, that loose requirement may have even been loosened further when anyone was labeled merely as a probable case and died from one thing or another.

Neither deaths nor cases show how many people have actually been infected or "infested" as you like to call it. Studies have shown that the percent of the population who have been infected can be 10X and greater than the reported cases. That would put NYC in the not many people left to be infected category.
