Yes, every harness track in Canada makes the PPs available online for free. The U.S. tracks could do the same and have the fans print them out if they are going to the track.

Saratoga is not just the city or county, it is a state of mind for local and neighboring citizenry who grow up with recreational gambling as a part of their culture. Everybody I grew up with was aware ofte track and had at least one relative who made at least one annual visit. No NY governor can ignore their support for that track and its traditions.
I agree that Cuomo is probably not interested in saving the sport, but neither does he want the backlash that threatening Saratoga would unleash.
Anyone who thinks Aqueduct will survive will find bridge salespersons at his/her door. Until better days financially come about, Belmont needs to be closed, though I hope not permanently.

Why don’t YOU offer an alternative scenario to save quality racing in NY. Only Saratoga has the political clout to get some cooperation from the State at this point. The status quo certainly won’t suffice.
|
Of course it would plummet because it wouldn't be "The Summer Place to be". It would be the April throgh mid October Place to be and people would stop caring. Instead of a short window to visit Saratoga, it would be a long boring mess. Go back to the NFL example. Would there be constant sell outs with a 32 week seaon?
My suggestion is to get rid of over regulation. Drop the two boards that over see the NYRA and things improve dramatically.

Ok so if Harness racing does it, I bet they have a HUGE new fanbase. It must work great!

This is what the NFL did. Used to be like 1300 paying customers in the stands. Then they started printing their own programs and the rest is history.

No truer words have ever been said. NY racing has to deal with that fact. So far all I have seen is bitching about the governor. This governor is not going save NY racing(and it is highly unlikely you ever see a governor who will), so it is up to NY racing do it. Bitching about the governor isn't going to get it done. Remember I am one of the posters that thinks racing can not only survive by without slots money, but flourish, if it plays it cards right.

Is this sarcasm? Or are you seriously suggesting causality here?

silent warfare
I don't think you get it. The governor is in a "silent war" with NYRA -a silent war is the same as a open war with out physical violence- and is attempting to sack slots money revenue.
Whether it is horses breaking down or their NYSRWB forgetting to lower the takeout the state is going to use every weapon available to win the war for slots cashflow. This is war it is NYRA versus the oriental casino owners reamed up with the local ruling class.

I'm well aware of what Saratoga is. It has no political clout, especially with a governor set on shutting racing down.
A lot has changed since the 60's.

If Joe Bruno were still in the State Senate, it might matter...but he isn't, so I agree w/ you.

That was not your point, nor mine. Simply that it can and has been done. Giving free PPs will not bring in new fans which is my point. You might as well hand out The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare. They won't understand that either.

Again, people are having a discussion about one thing and you are having an entirely different conversation with yourself.
People are bitching about the governor because he's trying to shut down NY racing. What is so confusing about that? Of course he isn't going to save it. He's trying to destroy it.

I understand that the governor doesn't like horse racing. Get over it. He ain't going anywhere and bitching about him isn't go to change that or him. NYRA isn't going to win any kind of war with this or any governor. That is the reality of the situation. You can kiss that slot money goodbye. It is time figure out what they are going to without it.

They already do.

This is the funniest post that I have read in Internet Land history.
(Until the next time, of course.)
