I'm late to this party, but SRV is my all-time favorite. It's interesting to watch some of the Stevie Ray "reaction" videos on YouTube, where younger people are introduced to him for the first time.

I've recently gotten interested in Joe Bonamassa. His guitar skills are nearly on par with Stevie Ray's. He plays a lot of different stuff, but his focus, like Stevie's, is the blues. Bonamassa opened concerts for B.B. King when he was 12.

Here's his cover of B.B. King's "The Thrill is Gone." Doesn't get much better than this. (As an aside, the keyboard player is Reese Wynans, who played with Stevie Ray's band for many years; the drummer is Anton Fig, the drummer for David Letterman's "CBS Orchestra.")

I love Joe B. He is excellent technically and is also a really good songwriter. He lacks "soul" in his guitar playing when compared to guys like SRV, Clapton, or even John Mayer, but I still like his style. BTW, there are a lot of really good modern blues players out there now with Bonamassa being one of them.

According to the book Keith Richards: The Biography by Victor Bockris, the line "I was born in a crossfire hurricane", was written by Richards, and refers to his being born amid the bombing and air raid sirens of Dartford, England, in 1943 during World War II.
