Very promising news about Thompson. It'll only take a few Republicans.

Apparently the override vote is now scheduled for Sep 22. Christie may have his finger to the wind on this one and if it looks like he's going to lose, I won't be shocked if his office proposes an "option" in hopes of forestalling the vote.

This may be naive, but I'm hoping that maybe Christie will give the unofficial "wink wink" to his fellow Repubs, basically saying he doesn't mind the override. In this situation, Christie would have done his "due dilligence" by vetoing and satisfying Sheldon Adelson, and at the same time, NJ can still get sports betting by overriding his veto.

Should be real, real interesting. Obviously, if it does get overridden, the leagues will try to stop it. But, if they try to sue the state, I think it will get thrown out because the state technically didn't do anything that violates PASPA. And, if they try to sue the tracks/casinos, what violation are they suing about? PASPA clearly states that "no STATE can sponsor, authorize.....sports betting." Last time I checked, tracks and casinos are not states and therefore are not in violation.

Plus, I read that the NHL may be trying to put a team in Las Vegas. If that's the case, the US congressmen should get together and throw out PASPA!!

I whipped out emails to my r reps, the buccos and carroll. They voted yes the first round

Wonder if they have the stones to override.

Other states need to follow suit as soon as possible.

I really don't understand the fuss about this. Delaware has parlay cards and full books set up at the tracks. The feds shut them down on taking single wager bets. They were grandfathered in before it was illegal. New Jersey can pass anything it wants and it makes no difference without the feds blessing.

Which is why christie is asking the federal judge for clarification of his ruling.

The judge stated that new jersey can simply stop enforcing is sports betting laws, the court of appeals said the same thing.

Will hill won,t be charged with state sports betting infractions

Only Congress can change laws, and this is what the federal judge will tell Christie.

in order for New Jersey to get sports gambling, they are going to need a constitutional amendment. that means that 66 2/3 of the states have to ratify it.

they had their shot to get sports gambling, instead they wanted Christie Todd Whitman to be governor there, they made sure they kept legalized sports gambling off the ballot that year.

Will this get "left alone" by the feds if the sports leagues don't challenge it?

Adam Silver, NBA Commish, seems to want sports betting, if i'm reading in between the lines correctly.
