He is "on the street" because there are too many of these guys to keep them all in jail. Sadly we have gotten really good in the US at turning our kids into these guys. Nobody seems to have any real answers as to why that is happening, but there is plenty of political dogma being pushed by all sides of the issue. Most of the political dogma has been tried many times and has failed over and over again.

Drop the dirt bag here and then let the Navy use it for gunnery practice.

Yea right, it is society's fault. If that is true how can you have 3 kids close together in ages raised by the same parents, lived in the same house, went to the same schools all turn out different? Some people are just bad and can't be fixed. I think the issue is in our country it seems the lower rung of the socio-economic ladder produce the most children. Your typical responsible upper middle class couple has one or two kids while a 25 year old single, uneducated, unemployed woman has 3 kids by different fathers.

People aren't bad unless they truly have mental disorders. People are a product of their up-bringing. Parents are a large part of the outcome, good or bad. Single parent homes increase the odds against the kid.

But a lot of people that have studied the matter say that a kid's peers have a greater impact than even the parents. Our grandparents knew this instinctively when they warned about hanging out with a bad crowd. You become one of the people that you associate with.

That's not a problem you fix by spending more money on education or social programs.

I hear that it's virtually impossible for an inner-city kid to avoid becoming involved with gangs.

Bullshit. I've seen them get around it. It takes a strong will and parents who are actively involved

The mothers are often just bigger fatter versions of their kids. They raise thugs with comparable morals. They'd be out on the street with them, but they can't move as fast or shoot as straight. No rocket science here.

Rich parents have been known to raise murderers too. Just not as often as poor parents. But both are pretty good at raising thieves though. Maybe the reason that poor kids turn out to be more violent than their rich counter parts is they do not have near the opportunities to steal with a "pen", so they resort to a gun. Just a thought. Once somebody uses a gun to commit a crime, there does not seem to be way for them to stop. Jail time only delays the time until they hurt or kill somebody with a gun.
Right now, the rich and well-to-do are portrayed as heroes, no matter how they got it. The motto, "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying" is drilled into our kids almost from birth. Everybody is looking for the edge even if that edge is illegal. Even our sports heroes still make tons of money after they have been caught doing steroids. It is no wonder the kids who have nothing think the way to get ahead is to lie, cheat and steal. My father's generation thought that having a decent paying job and a house was enough and honesty was a virtue . The kids today, from what I have seen, think honesty is a handicap.
