Rudy Rodriguez
Haven't seen any comments on NY's latest and greatest trainer
list who is closing in on Mr.Pletcher as the leading trainer of the meet.
He apparently fits the mode of previous hot trainers(Pistol Pete,
Oscar B) with not one owner giving him a Grade I candidate,
but shines in Claiming races at will..
Guess his many years as a Jock prepared him for greatness

He is a former jockey who started training this winter. He used to work for one of the Dutrows. He pretty amazing with horses the first time they start with him. I leave you to your own conclusions on how he accomplishes the remarkable turn arounds. There was a short thread on him a while back.

Some day in the not too distant future, horse players will betting on computer generated races over the net. Race tracks will become casinos and shopping centers. And some crooner will be belting out "there used to be a race track here".

I believe I get your drift.
Seems every track, at one point or another witnesses this
scenario.
It is just moind boggling when you line up the trainers, their experience,
and averages when these "rising stars" suddenly appear and make
other trainers appear inept based upon the cliamed horses suddenly
winning and running way faster.
While I understand some trainers can win eliminating medical issues to
claimers not addressed by previous trainers, this winning record
by a relatively inexperienced trainer bears scrutiny.

Maybe he puts a goat or chicken in their stalls. Maybe not too many do that anymore?

It all comes down to the owners...... There are certain owners that do well with who ever is the trainer.... It has more to do with the owner/vet combos then the trainer listed.

i used to hear things about an owner, james riccio, in n y. he moved his horses around a lot, but the trainers he was with always did very well. makes you wonder.

Well, now Rudy can even apparently "improve" turf sprinters he claims from the turf sprinter queen, Linda Rice. In his first start since being claimed by King Rudy, Tahoe Warrior is able to win 100k stakes race at Calder.
The horse had to improve 3 to 4 lengths, which over 5f is no small feat. He hasn't run 1 or 2 in anything but a claiming race in about 4 years. All hail King Rudy.

Why are his trainer exploits so surprising to so many racing fans? It's not like he didn't pay his dues in this game...
After all...he did compile a 221/3,900 (5.7%) record, in an 18 year riding career.

I assume that is sarcasm. The list of jocks turned successful trainers is very small indeed, percentage wise.

How does an obscure, mediocre jockey like this achieve this level of success RIGHT AWAY - when there have been Hall of Fame trainers who have never had stats like these?
I know that he worked for a "top" trainer...but this is unbelievable...
A 7 year-old horse improving 4 lengths in a 5 fur. race in its first start for Rudy...while rising dramatically in class? And it pays $6.80?
And then...the industry wonders why the big bettors have fled from this game...

Did you actually look at that race today though? I know technically it was a rise in class, but with the exception of Bernie The Maestro they were all claimers.
Don't get me wrong, he's improving horses and doing it with almost every horse he gets. But I don't see this one as that big a move up based on the race today.
