The virus has been on somebody's radar since at least December, so officially, this thing has been around for about 3-4 months already. It's likely been around much longer than that, if you use any sort of common sense and you also realize how flawed the system in place actually is...

A regular flu season sees over 600,000 deaths worldwide.
Even if we double the current count to account for errors and missed deaths, that still leaves us a good 2/3rds behind a regular flu season. If we don't double the deaths, we are 4/5ths behind or more.
Of course, we won't really know if any of this is true until social distancing restrictions are lifted and everybody who is destined to catch this thing actually catches it...unless of course you propose everybody keep hiding away until the vaccine arrives in another year+ time....which is something I'm sure you would strongly consider...lulz
