I don't live in the NY area either, but consider NYRA my home circuit. I haven't logged onto their site, but are the replays in HD? I ask because running the HD cable from my laptop to the 55" would be primo.

The replays are in HD on the website.

We fully understand that some of our long standing customers will be disappointed, and for that we apologize, but once again given the availability of our replays, we feel that a more than reasonable alternative is available.
We are constantly beseiged by people saying the industry does not do enough to try to encourage new customers, or modernize our approaches. In my opinion, this show is an attempt to do just that. I am sorry if some people do not like it, but also disappointed that some also seem unwilling to even give it a fair chance. It is a work in progress. I am very confident that over time it will be a model television show for the entire industry.

This show is a very bad idea, don't try and fix something that was not broken.

Tall One,
Since I have TVG and their crappy non def picture, I do the same...I hook up my laptop to my big hi def TV and watch the races from NYRA off my NYRA One account! The picture is fabulous, now I've got to figure a way of getting the audio to my TV system as the cable only runs video feed!
Plus you get Maggie's paddock insight

It never seems to me to be a good idea to tell your customer to go get what they want somewhere else (replays can be found on various sites on the internet)- in fact, alhough it's admirable that you want to build your fan base for racing, I always thought it might be good business to treat your established followers with respect and understanding. It might be news to NYRA that horseracing has a rabid senior citizen following- not all of which are proficient with nor, indeed, care to use the internet. I imagine some might not even have access to it in their homes- I can see Blewitt having a yuck on that one. I have watched and recorded the replay show for at least the last twenty years- and while the show was beginning to border on incompetent (how else to explain prices going up before the race- or better yet, showing only the stretch run of the final leg of a huge pick six, because the host needs to tell us about the bad trip some twenty claimer pulled in the seventh race) I still watched it religiously. Be honest, the new show is a vehicle for these guys to impress each other with their "inside" talk- good thing- cause very soon, no one else will listening.

Impressive first post. Welcome to PA, hope you stay around.
I agree, i don't need an analyst to tell me what my eyes have seen on the replays, i'd rather see the actual replay, so i can formulate my own unique information.
I've always been of the school that its best to cater to existing customers since "word of mouth" is probably the best free advertising you can get....
Basically what it comes down to is this. Its kind of a catch 22 in the sense that the people who want the replays to tape them and refer back to them are the people who are more serious about the game than the people who won't ever use the beautiful HD replays on the tv set....yet, the new format seems to cater to the people who would rather NOT have the replays by giving them "trip notes" from the analysts...but, if those people arent going to want the HD replays and refer back to them, are they really going to "jot down" verbal notes from analysts and refer back to them?
I do see the point that they might be making and that is why waste valuable tv time by showing replays that you could see on the internet, but i know that a replay in HD on a 50+ inch tv is much more valuable to me than watching on my Macbook pro.
I would suggest that if they're going to take away the replays in 50+inch, they need to replace it with stuff that you can't get by watching replays, i would say interviews with trainers about specific horses who ran horribly, that way you can get an "Excuse" or something like that and that would be a good "Trade off" for going from 50 inch to 17 inch on the replays.

Tonight, they talk about this turf race with lots of trips in it. But showed none of them. then they talked about the head on shot of the break, where horse did something or other. But didn't show it.
Then came the shameless plug for Saturday's card at TVG level commentary.
It was an infomercial! I was waiting for the Mig to say, "But wait! There's more!"
And then pull out a set of NYRA Steak Knives! Or tell us to order or Triple Crown Chess Set.
Thank GOD the Big Bang Theory is on at the same time.

Friday night Belmont Insider becomes Saratoga Insider- who wants to see replays from Saratoga, anyway? I mean, it's not like it's one of the premier meets of the year. Oh well, at least I can feel good about the fact that, living smack dab in the middle of NY, I haven't bet a dime in the state since OTB closed .
